*~*~*

Hey there... Thank you for checking out these special shorts. They were made some time ago by a very good friend of mine who has since passed away. His name was GregStar, and he was one of the best friends I've ever had.

We met here in Oregon, both coincidentally being from Long Island originally. He was abrasive and loud... so unlike everyone I knew here in Portland, and I was immediately drawn into his life. We spoke on the phone almost everyday... usually just to make fun of things and to make each other laugh. We went to shows together, celebrated holidays together, sewed together, and had heartfelt, revealing talks together.

These shorts were his personally. They were found among his fabric and notions in a pile next to his machine. I remember first seeing them years ago. I was blown away by the Grateful Dead 13 Point Steal Your Face Lightning Bolt applique on the back pocket, and extremely impressed at his choice of fabrics and his simplicity of design.

Measurements

42" drawstring waist uncinched

26" outer side seam length

28" leg openings

The shorts needed some fixing up by the time I got them, so I took care of a couple of things... namely over-edging the edges of fabric patches on the inside, raw seams. I told him more than once about the importance of preventing fraying, but he was so excited to create and design, that the technicalities were not such a big deal for him :)

I went ahead and replaced the two side patch pockets, using only precut patches from his stash. I lined the pockets and reinforced them so they are on to stay. I left the GD back patch pocket as is, mostly to leave his work his own, but also because it seems like it's in pretty decent condition and should be all right for some time to come, even with lots of wear and washings.

Other than that, the shorts are as is. They have a drawstring waist and he cut the panels the way I taught him years back... for comfort and movement and sturdy reliability.

Enjoy!

THANK YOU!
