*~*~*
Hey mamas!
Making this dress was such an amazing experience! I had very recently gotten word that I needed to get on an airplane last minute for a family gathering of sorts, yet was already into starting this project that began with simply piecing together many tiny patches of the beige, brown, and burgundy persuasion. The pieces became strips, the strips became very long, and the amount of strips plenty. My initial plans of an apron top were scrapped, and so began this dress.
Although there were only so many hours in which I had to get my stuff together, pack, and also get to my J-O-B for 8 hours, I could NOT stop sewing! Even when it became apparent that what had started out as a relatively small project was turning into the direction of being on par with a full-on quilt, I couldn't stop! Even when it was 3AM, and my eyes were heavy, my place a mess, my bag unpacked, and my job a-waiting on my timely arrival, I could NOT stop! There's obsession for you, in full form!

The dress is a labor of love, consisting of TONS of tiny patches collected over the years from many a project. The smallest pieces are only 1" square! The basic design started with four (4) strips running vertically with three (3) A-lined panels and the center ladder-like panel interspersed between. The A-lined panels are a mix of more calico and light-colored corduroys. The gathered hem has a couple of white-on-white prints and the awesome bodice finishes off the entire piece with a rich, chocolate-like brown with a curved neckline.
These straps are top-stitched along the entire length after having been triple folded.... it's a new technique I've adapted recently, and all the more sturdy and durable. The bodice is entirely corduroy, fully lined for comfort, and *darted* for lots of support.
Almost all of the fabric is over-edged to prevent fraying and the seams are double-stitched where need be so as to ensure longevity. There are two (2) phatty, lined, patch pockets made of the sweetest prints of calico. They are top-stitched on and reinforced so they won't rip the fabric they are tacked onto. The dress is *brand new* and has never been worn except for in the pictures. All the material is 100% cotton, so the dress will be just fine in the washer and dryer (cold water and dry low).
Enjoy!
